Stolen Bike

I previously wrote about about someone attempting to steal my bicycle.  Last night, they came back and did a better job and actually stole it.  I called campus police and filled out a stolen property report.  Cortney and I went to Wal-mart to look for a new bike.  We didn’t find me anything special so we went home.  As soon as we got home, my cell phone rang.
It was the university police department.  They caught the guy only 2 hours later.  How? He rode by the police station.  Yes, on the stolen bike. MORON!  I’m glad an idiot stole my bike.

Looks like someone tried to steal my bicycle last night while I was at work.  I locked the bicycle up at the top of the wheel around the bicycle rack.  When I went to unlock it, the lock was at the bottom of the wheel and twisted in the spokes.  The chain had some several long cuts on it, maybe from someone just trying to pull the bike out.  The plastic housing over the actual lock popped open into two pieces, but it just clipped back together.  I’m real glad I bought a lock for my bike now, one that is strong enough to stop amateurs from stealing it.

Wal-mart Site-to-Store

Wal-mart online has an option called Site-to-Store, where you can ship any item on the website to any store for FREE!  This option just came available in my area, and below is my experience with it.  I previously posted about how I ordered a bicycle using Wal-mart Site-to-Store option, saving me $15 on shipping.  I checked online and my bicycle had arrived at the store, hours later I received an email from Wal-mart.  The email HAD to be printed out in order to pickup the item, because there was a bar code they need to scan.  Once in the store, 3274 Inner Perimeter Rd, Valdosta, I went to customer service and they told me to go to the back of the store.  Once at the back of the store there was no one around, but the touch screen that you sign for your credit card said “touch here for assistance”.  I touched it and a minute later it told me that a Wal-mart associate has responded and should be there soon.  Five minutes later, someone finally shows up and I show the lady the paper and I have to show her my ID.  Another five minutes and she returns with my bicycle, she tells me that I’m going to have to go find something to put it in.  So I leave while she is matching all the numbers on my order to all the numbers on the box, and I find a shopping cart.  I return and she helps me load the pretty beat up box on top of the shopping cart.  The Wal-mart greeter at the door asks me for my receipt and then asks me what is in the box, I tell him that it’s a bicycle and his response is, “oh… you’re gonna have to put it together, ya know?”  Thank you Wal-mart for all your help (yes, sarcasm).  Although my Site-to-Store experience wasn’t horrible, it wasn’t great either.  Surprisingly the only thing bent on the bicycle was one of the rods coming off the back fender, which was easily fixed.  After I put the bike together, Cortney and I rode all the way down to Ashley Cinemas and back from her apartment.  When we got the bikes back home though I noticed that the tube in my front tire was completely flat.  Since my bike comes with a six month warranty on all parts, I called Huffy but they are only open M-F.  I’m assuming that I will have to pay shipping on a new tube though, which will cost almost as much as picking one up locally.  But my bike is pretty awesome when it doesn’t have a flat tire.
